A father of three abducted a newspaper delivery girl and forced her into a 100-mile terror ride in his car, part of it in the boot, Mold Crown Court, north Wales, was told yesterday. Raymond Hewlett, who had two convictions for attacking girls, was described in court as highly dangerous. He was jailed for six years.

The court was told that the girl, aged 14, had remained calm throughout her nightmare journey, during which Hewlett had tried to have sexual intercourse. Mr John Rogers, QC, for the prosecution, said she had been threatened with a knife and, while naked apart from her socks, was subjected to a sexual ordeal when she thought she was going to be raped.

The court was told that the girl attempted to escape as she was driven to a quarry near Llangollen. However, she abandoned any plans to escape when a knife with a 6in blade was produced.

Mr Rogers said she was forced to strip at the quarry and Hewlett failed in an attempt to have intercourse. She was then driven 50 miles in the boot and dumped in a wood near Ffestiniog.

Hewlett, aged 43, of Telford, Shropshire, admitted kidnapping, false imprisonment and indecent assault.
